Crested Butte, Colorado was incorporated in 1880. Originally established as a major coal mining town, now boasts some of the best outdoor recreation in North America. Crested Butte Mountain Resort, now owned by Vail Resorts, holds some of the steepest in-bounds terrain in the country. The surrounding area including Gunnison, CO is home to some of the best mountain biking in the state. If fishing is your passion, float down the Gunnison river for a scenic and tranquil activity.

 

During the summers, exciting entertainment is not hard to find. Claimed as the "Wildflower Capital of Colorado," the Crested Butte Wildflower festival is the second week of July and has clinics, guided hikes and historic walking tours. The Crested Butte Music Festival is the entire month of July and holds world-renowned music from classical to bluegrass. Crested Butte Bike Week is the last week of June and has a variety of guided bike rides and the World Championship Chainless Downhill.
